Parent's Day at Ekhator School of Music is an annual event that allows parents and loved ones to see the progress of the students. It is a great opportunity for parents to witness firsthand what their children have been learning and to get a feel for the school. The event is held before the summer break, making it a perfect way to wrap up the academic year.
The Annual Piano Recital is the highlight of ESOM's year. Each December, students showcase their musical talents to family and friends. The event also serves as an opportunity for prospective students to learn about ESOM and apply for the next school year.
Comfort Adjei, the Parent Coordinator, introduced parent meetings and fundraising activities in 2011 to further involve parents in the music program. The ESOM PTA is dedicated to nurturing student musicians and hosts fundraisers throughout the year to support the music school.
Ekhator School of Music (E.S.O.M) seeks to provide an outstanding opportunity for children seven years and above to develop their full potential in playing musical instruments, especially the piano. The program also gives adult students the knowledge and urge to play their favorite tunes. The school embraces students from the community and other denominations.
The enduring mission of E.S.O.M is an independent music school at First Presbyterian Church of Irvington, New Jersey, and it is rooted in values and traditions of:
In 1999, The Ekhator School of Music became part of the First Presbyterian Church (FPC) of Irvington. Mr. Harrison Ekhator, Minister of Music at FPC, decided to offer free piano lessons to anyone who wanted them instead of taking a vacation that year.
The piano school started with approximately six students from the church, & from Mr. Ekhator’s heart of generosity, selflessness, & commitment, it has grown to enroll between 75-100 students a year from different churches in the state of New Jersey.
